Real hypnotherapy sessions are nothing like hypnosis tracks on YouTube, even the ones made by me. We use different methods and approaches so I won’t be talking in a slow voice, reading you a story or telling you to imagine skipping through fields of candy.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
A hypnotherapy session consists of 3 main parts:
- We start off with a 10-minute chat to explain how it works and what to expect. This is absolutely crucial because without doing this you won’t know what’s going on and it wouldn’t work.
- We clear out junk from your mind. This is where we go back and clear out any negative things from your life that are holding you back. Without doing this you would be wasting your time trying to fix a problem as these old issues could well be part of it. You will likely get very emotional on this part of the session and many people cry. That’s nothing to be afraid of; it means that what we’re doing is working and your issues are being released.
- We then use the most appropriate hypnotherapy technique to work with whatever has come up
That’s how therapy should be done. It’s based on your needs and we change what we’re doing to deal with what emerges.
If ever you have been to a script-reading therapist (where they just read a story to you from a book) then that is NOT how hypnotherapy should be done and it won’t work because of something we’re going to talk about next.
The problem isn’t the problem
It’s crucial you understand that the problem is not the problem.
A fear of spiders has nothing to do with spiders. Driving anxiety has nothing to do with driving.
The problem you’re experiencing is just how the issue you have is showing itself, it’s not the issue itself.
Hypnosis allows you to talk to the subconscious mind and get straight to the root cause of the issue. We don’t waste time taking and theorising – we get straight to the point.
This is why script-reading therapy is a waste of time. Reading a script about anxiety to someone won’t do anything because anxiety isn’t the problem.

Using hypnosis for the first time
You’ve already entered hypnosis thousands of times in your life.
Did you know that watching TV sends you into hypnosis? Staring at the screen, getting tired eyes…that’s hypnosis.
Have you ever felt sad or cried when your favourite character dies on a TV show? That’s because your mind is fooled into thinking that the death really happened even though you know that really it’s just acting.
It’s the same with the problem you have. You know it’s unnecessary and maybe even silly but your mind thinks it’s real and makes you feel things you don’t want to.
What if hypnosis doesn’t work?
If you want to enter hypnosis then nothing can stop it happening.
The good news is that it’s very easy to enter hypnosis and you can do it in less than 1 minute even if you’ve never done it before.

You do the work, not me!
It’s vital that you understand it is you that does the work in hypnotherapy and not me.
It isn’t even me that hypnotises you because you do that yourself. You can read all about this on my page all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. I will guide you with what to do but only you can do it.
No hypnotist can force hypnosis on you – only you can make it happen.
Sometimes people think they are just going to sit back, be hypnotised and then I do all the work and they wake up fixed. That is not how it works.
You are the only one that can access your mind so therefore you are the only one that can make the changes needed.
My role as a hypnotherapist is to guide you and apply the correct hypnotherapy technique. Think of me as a tour guide, guiding you to the right places and showing you the things you need to see.
The most common reason for hypnotherapy sessions not working is that people expect me to do all the work for them.
I can tell you what you need to do but I can’t do it for you.
What happens in future hypnotherapy sessions?
You may find that your issue has gone after one session.
If not then we continue using various methods on future sessions until we achieve the result you want.
People often want to come back and work on other issues or come back for general sessions to boost their confidence.

How many sessions do I need?
An issue might go after one session. Others may take 2 to 4 sessions to clear. It’s different for everyone.
Some issues like weight loss can be a longer-term thing but it may be that one simple problem is making you gain weight and by clearing that problem you get slimmer without the need for further work.
Think of it like when you go to see a doctor. You describe what the issue is and they say that they’ll start you off on one set of pills or whatever but if that doesn’t work then come back and they’ll do something else.
I always aim to give you the best therapy that will work in the minimum number of sessions but there is no method that works for everyone all the time. I wish there was, it would make my life much easier.
